Lulu wanted a game where you have to think before you touch anything. You get an animal you cannot see properly and three clues in its own voice, and the clues never name the place. "I waddle on land but I am built for the sea." "I have never once stood under a tree."

Then you build. Five slots for climate, terrain, water, plants and shelter, dragged in from a drawer at the bottom of the screen. Release the animal into what you made and it either thrives or it does not, and if it does not you read the clues again and try something else.

Twenty-four animals across six continents, every clue written by hand. She would not let me write any of them.

What it taught Lulu

  • Writing a clue that is fair but not obvious is much harder than writing the code that checks the answer.
  • A level nobody can solve on the first try is broken, not difficult.
  • Six continents means six sets of everything. She scoped it herself, twice, before the numbers felt possible.
